But we’re also discovering technology alone isn’t the cure. Research shows spirituality plays a key role in one’s health, and Rev. Dr. Gary Gunderson will discuss what communities can do to incorporate faith into the healing process. Dr, Gunderson will be speaking for 20 minutes as the keynote speaker. His presentaiton will be followed by a panel discussion including: Marni Stahlman; President of Shepherd's Hope, Jay Perez; Vice-President of Mission & Ministry at Florida Hospital , Reverend Bryan Fulwider; Radio Co-host from The Three Wise Guys and Dr. Gary Gunderson. Rev. Dr. Gary Gunderson has spent more than two decades studying the field of faith and public health, and helped developed care models that are making significant impacts in patients’ health. As vice president of FaithHealth at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in North Carolina, Gunderson has oversight of spiritual care, clinical pastoral education and dozens of counseling centers. He also serves as professor at Wake Forest University’s School of Divinity and School of Medicine. Gunderson’s work in Memphis, Tenn., which involved more than 600 congregational partners, showed dramatically lower hospitalization rates, reduced cost and significantly improved outcomes for patients. FaithHealthNC is working with the North Carolina Hospital Association and regional foundations to spread the model across the state. Gunderson has authored several books including Religion and the Health of the Public, Deeply Woven Roots, Leading Causes of Life and Boundary Leaders.
